How do you subscribe to a thread without replying to it? I know how to subscribe to a separate area in the forum by clicking the button in the right hand corner but it doesn't have that option at least for me on an individual thread.

It's a tiny link at the bottom left of each thread, just above "Users browsing this thread"

Look to the bottom-left of the thread page for the link. It's under and to the left of the "Possibly Related Threads..." box.
