I have this problem too, only some of the time. So I just always check Hot Topics myself and see if there are new things, since it often doesn't show up when I look at "View Today's Posts"

I think it's because of the moderation. The post is made today at 6 am but gets approved tomorrow. It won't show up as new because the posting date is old.
