Sea Chanties!! America! Canada! New Zealand! Jamaica! The Georgia Sea Islands (one of the first recorded collections of 'Negro slave songs' and that titles gives a hint of how long ago that was).

As always, these are here as a tool, an aide. Make the substitutions you need to make for your family and circumstances. Just sing.

Haha! We just did The Wellerman because we came across the Viral Sensation! We'll have to sub something else. Here's the parody that we found before we were introduced to the original:

There Is a Time for Us to Wander might be listed under There Is a Time, so don't get discouraged if you don't find it searching for "wander."

Hooray!

I'm so happy to see Farewell to Nova Scotia because I remember my older boys singing it when they were little. (Maybe around 2007 in the rotation?)

Thank you so much for another incredible list! We *love* the folk song selections of past years, kids ask me to play them all the time, so we are very much looking forward to a fresh batch. We've had such fun learning them and singing them (rather off-key lol) together, many happy memories being made with these as the soundtrack. Thanks again!!

Yay! We always do folksongs over the summer term, but I just let each child pick one from previous years. Our family has one child who seems to always remember all the lyrics no matter how long it has been and instead of leading us all, he just corrects us after the fact and thinks it is crazy that we can not remember the lyrics. We have 6 years of great AO folksongs, I can't wait to listen to the ones for this year. Thanks for taking the time to pick them.
