Tech Support (Parent and Student Access)/Page count incorrect?

I'm looking at the page counts for Story of the Romans by Guerber for T3Y6 here and the total pages for the term doesn't match up with the book. The AO site says 199 pages. My copy of the book by Yesterday's Classics (linked on the booklist page) has 349 pages with the book ending with chapter 102, which follows the schedule. The version published by LBP has 226 pages (also linked on the website). Was this 199 page count determined using a different version of the book or is the number simply incorrect?
I am considering subbing in Mills for Guerber, but I need to know the current page counts so I can plan accordingly. This discrepancy is throwing me off.

Probably a different edition.

Hmm ok. I assumed the pages at least matched the YC's edition linked on the website. I guess I'll use YC and LBP to figure out a reasonable number.

Also, the font is much bigger with a YC book than the original older books. I don't know about LBP.

Quote:Page counts were done by finding the number of words per line in a book (taken by counting words in twelve line samples and getting an average), then counting lines in the book and multiplying by the number of words per line to get a fair estimate of how many words are in the book. Etexts available online were pasted into a word editing program that displays how many words are in the document. Books vary as to how many words are on an average page, ranging from 250 to 500, but 320-360 was most common, and since An Island Story uses about 320 words per page and we know Charlotte Mason used that book in her schools and wrote how many pages of that book she used in various Forms, we used a uniform 320 words per page. By dividing the total estimated words of a book by 320, we were able to get uniform page numbers.
Imagining that every AO book could be printed with the same typeface and size of An Island Story, this is what AO's page count would be.
The Guerber books are online, so I would have used the online text, pasted it into Word, gotten a total word count, and divided by 320 to get a page count.
Dorothy Mills' Ancient Greeks is online, Ancient Romans is also online at archive.org; do you want me to do this type of page count for it so you can compare them?

That’s true. I made an assumption AO used the YC version to calculate the page count.

It is so nice of you to offer to do that Leslie. I would hate for you to go to that trouble just for me. When I do page counts I simply take the number of pages to be read and divide by how many weeks I’m planning for. Then I break it down further for daily readings. I hadn’t considered there was a more detailed way to do it by word count. Have I been doing it wrong?
Basically, I’m looking to fit the Mills book into 12 weeks, but I will likely need to skip some chapters to cut it down since it’s longer than Guerber. Based off what I read in a different thread, there are chapters about Roman culture that could easily be skipped. I’ve just got to figure out which ones those are and then I can calculate how many pages per week. My son is an older y6 and I think the higher level of writing in the Mills book will be more challenging than Guerber.

Leslie does it the way she does so that her "page count" is consistent across books and editions. Counting by words gives a more even division. But that amount of precision is not needed by the average person.

That makes total sense. Thanks!
