Tech Support (Parent and Student Access)/Old Mac won't load AO website or forum
Yesterday, 07:23 AM
An AO mom with a 2015 MacAir can't load either the AO website or the forum. When she tries, the browser tells her that she can't access it anymore because her browser is too old.
She says:
"I can access youtube and Facebook and Google Docs and not much else.
To access Reddit or Wikipedia or my email I have to reset my time stamp. But resetting my timestamp doesn't work with the AO stuff."
Does anyone have any insight into how we can make this work for her?

That's odd. My daughters both use 2015 MacBookAirs, and the website and forum work fine. I wonder if she could free up some space and update the operating system. They are updated to 12.7.6 Monterey.

So it's actually a 2014 that I bought on sale in 2015. We're looking at updating it to Monterey as you suggested but it looks like it requires a 3rd party package purchase to do that because it still has the original operating system that it came with on it. How did you go about uploading it for yours? Apple Tech support told me in 2021 that I couldn't update and had to buy a new laptop. I'm seeing that that information must have been false if you worked out an update on yours.

Are you using safari? Our Mac is too old to update now but I will have to see the details. We can access the website but we use chrome so I don't know if that makes a difference.

No, using Chrome. Safari went out of date on it years ago and I had to switch to Chrome.

The website and forum are https, not http. Do other https sites work for you?

I get used Macs, and these had already been updated to the operating system that has the App Store. I borrowed a disc to update one of my old computers to a newer os and then continued updating with the automatic download.

I know that it is important to do the updates as they come out, otherwise that can happen, it reaches a point where there is too large of a gap between the system you are using and the newest version if you haven't updated step by step over the years. I'm sure there must be a way around that, so hopefully someone knows a way for you.
