You're added to Mothers of Large Families! Hot Topics is a bit different. No one has to be added there, but New Members can't see it, and I think Junior Members can see it but can't post. (I may be remembering incorrectly.)

See the three lines, the second icon from the left? Press that, then scroll down to Private Groups.

There's a different process for teens:

That's because teens have to have a parent's permission and also have a parent active on the forum.
