After reading what others have said, and since the new schedule has Age of Fable for only the first term, I'm thinking I will do Heroes of Asgard for just those 12 weeks--no sense for our family in piling on any extra!

For a Year 6 who hasn't previously covered Norse mythology, if you have only one term, I might suggest using one of the alternative books suggested at the end of the study guide, such as those by Roger Lancelyn Green or Padraic Colum.

I appreciate how thoughtfully changes are made to the AmblesideOnline curriculum. Thank you so much for this!

We have a large family with children close in age, which means a new student (or two) has been added every year for four years straight (and more are following fairly closely behind!)  That fact combined with several other things has made AO for Groups the best fit for our family.

This past school year was our first with two forms and my eldest and I read Age of Fable as previously scheduled. My twins are joining Form 2 this coming school year and I’m debating whether or not I should continue with the previous mythology schedule for all of them. Alternatively, I could get on track with the new mythology schedule starting with my twins and finish out the old one with my eldest. I’m trying to think ahead because I will have Form 2 going on a loop for a good number of years ahead.

Would any women wiser than myself be willing to share their thoughts on this?

So based on your sig I'm guessing they'll be doing 2B next year? Hmm. Yes, I think your best bet is to have the oldest stay on the old schedule, if they're capable of doing the reading independently or you have the time to do that extra reading.

Thank you for your time! Yes, we are doing 2B. I should have said that before. My eldest (year 5) could do her own reading; my twins (year 4) need more assistance. I think I am having some decision fatigue at this point so I appreciate your suggestion. That seems to make the most sense.

Hello,

As I know you make these choices thoughtfully, I am wondering how you came about the choice to include Homer retellings instead of just Bulfinich for 4 years (years 5, 6, 7, 8) per PNEU programmes?

We are nearing Form 4, so Year 7, and could definitely take a break from Bulfinch, having done it for two years, in favour of the Homer retellings for a part of the year. So I am wondering how this choice came about. (We do our own curriculum based on PNEU, AO, but generally following the intent of the subjects).

Thank you!

The Homer retellings were already in the schedule, so it seemed redundant to have them read Bulfinch's chapters as well. If you prefer to read the Bulfinch version instead, that's fine, but it doesn't seem the best use of time to do both.
