Avatar photo sideways

I tried changing my avatar photo so it is actually of me, and it is sideways. I tried rotating the photo before uploading, and it's still sideways! Any way to fix this?

mom to David (Age 17, YR11), Grant (Age 14, YR8) and Lucy (Age 13, YR8) and Ella (Age 6, YR 1)
I didn't even have to crop it; all I did was open it in a photo editing program, rotate it, and then save it. Apparently rotating it on the desktop wasn't enough! Thanks for the idea... it led me to the answer.
