  Y1 Shakespeare reading
Posted by: happi - 05-21-2015, 03:40 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

In the basic schedule for Y1, the book listed is only Nesbit & the word "by" is missing a space before it.
Beautiful Stories from Shakespeareby Edith Nesbit β Δ ($) Ω Κ

In the detailed schedule it lists both Nesbit & Lamb.
Beautiful Stories from Shakespeareby Edith Nesbit β Δ ($) Ω Κ OR Tales from Shakespeare, by Charles Lamb β Δ ($ K) Κ Ω

Not sure whether this is intentional or accidental, thanks!

  Amb.leside online e-mail loop
Posted by: LindsayL - 05-21-2015, 03:08 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (13)

I don't know where else to get information about this.  What is wrong with the Ambleside Online e-mail loop?

Several months ago I posted information about Pi Day, which this year would have been special, not to be repeated in 100 years.  The date ran to many more Pi decimal places than usual.  About a month after posting my mail was bounced back to me saying that it hadn't been approved by the moderator.  Well, Ambleside users lost an opportunity to celebrate a special Pi Day, which they won't have again in their lifetimes.

I don't understand why that message needed to be approved, as I have been on this loop for years, and before, had no problem with my messages being posted.

A few weeks ago I tried posting again, this time about the folksongs on AO.  So far I haven't seen that message posted

  Private Messaging: Number of Recipients
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 05-07-2015, 05:57 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

I'm composing a message I would like to send to multiple members. Under the box for adding the members names, I see these words: "You may send this message to a maximum of 5 people."

However, when I try to add a fourth name, I get this message: "You can only select 3 items."

What am I doing wrong?

Short Cuts When Typing in Source Mode
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 05-04-2015, 02:48 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

I made a terrific little discovery for those who like to type in source mode. However, it turns out to not be that amazing...you know the feeling of learning something new only to find out everyone else already knows...

"ctrl + b" automatically inserts the syntax for bold.

"ctrl + i" automatically inserts the syntax for italics.

"ctrl + u" automatically inserts the syntax for underline.

I was on the verge of assuming I was an absolute genius when I realized that information is right there for all to see by simply hovering over the B, I, or U in the toolbar.

Oh well...not only am I not a genius but I have now also put on display my total lack of attention and observation.

Despite all this, I made the decision to continue on with this thread for the few out there who may also be unaware of these nifty shortcuts.

  Getting notifications
Posted by: tbsmith1995 - 04-29-2015, 05:44 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

Is there a way to get email notifications from a specific form (say Forum III, Y7-8)?  I see where I can get notifications from a specific thread but would like to have notices from the entire forum.  Thanks!

  Update
Posted by: KarenG - 04-26-2015, 04:02 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

I noticed some of the usual glitches...Showing how many along with how many posts for each user, and duplication of the how many users like a post.

On the upside--the search function is working properly again.  Hooray!

Forum was updated Sat. evening (April 25)
Posted by: MelisaH - 04-26-2015, 10:58 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Hi all,

The update seemed to have gone pretty smoothly. This update should take care of a lot of the weird things that happened with the last upgrade. There will be another one coming sooner or later to take care of any remaining issues.

As always, if you notice any weird glitchy things, please let us know and be patient since tomorrow is Sunday (meaning the admin/mods may not be around to fix things as quickly as usual).

Have a great rest of your weekend. [Heart <3]

  AO/CM Buy/Sell Forum area!
Posted by: MelisaH - 03-17-2015, 06:22 AM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

As we come closer to the end of the traditional school year, I know some of you may be looking to make some space on your shelves for next years books (though I cannot imagine giving them up!). However, for those that do, we do have an area of the forum where you can list your Charlotte Mason and Ambleside Online compatible books for sale! You may sell products created and produced by you as well. Be sure to read the guidelines for posting.

You can find this area here: Buy/Sell AO Books

  Signature is crazy!

Help!
A few months ago I noticed that for some reason my signature now is linked with my Pinterest page, which I never did and do not understand!
I cannot get the link out if I try to update my signature either.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks so much!

Ann-Marie

  Upcoming Forum Update for March/April
Posted by: MelisaH - 03-07-2015, 06:28 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (3)

There is a forum update that needs to be done soon. I wanted to give everyone a heads up that it is going to happen in the next week or so. This won't be as big of a deal as the upgrade was, thankfully.

I won't be trying to do this in the overnight hours this time. It is just too hard on my husband (my IT helper guy) and myself to stay up until the wee hours of the morning anymore (getting old, I guess).

So, if one of these days, you come to the forum to try to login right after dinner and find it is down, be patient with me. The update itself doesn't take long, but backing everything up before we do it does take a while.

  Searching the Forum
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 03-01-2015, 09:32 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - No Replies

I was wondering if it is possible to search the forum for a phrase without the words having to be an exact order match.

For example, I searched for "Christmas games," but the thread I wanted did not come up because the words in the thread were "games for Christmas." So although they were the same words, they were not in the same order and were not consecutive.

Update Link on AO Site Map
Posted by: trinitydaks - 02-18-2015, 11:41 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

The link on the Site Map that goes to the Combined schedules that were created by Missy Grey is no longer valid.
The whole site was removed in 2009.
However, her schedules are on the forum under Combined schedules.
Can we update the link somehow to link people to the Forum files?

How to View Posts Older then 24 Hours?
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 01-31-2015, 12:07 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Someone (I think Phyllis) shared how to view newer posts for a longer period than 24 hours, basically what "View Today's Posts" does but for more days (whatever one wants to set).  However, I don't remember into which thread this great information was buried.

Would you please share that syntax with us again?

  ATTN: Formatting trouble?
Posted by: Phyllis - 01-29-2015, 12:13 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

If you're having trouble with the formatting in your posts--particularly with copying and pasting--or if you just don't like WYSIWYG when typing, you can switch to source by clicking on the button that looks like a sheet of paper on the new reply or new post page. It's the last one of all the buttons there.

Also, you can switch the default for your account by going to your User CP and choosing Edit Options in the sidebar. Select "Put the editor in source mode by default" and save.

  Avatar changes
Posted by: fiona - 01-25-2015, 10:01 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (5)

I've been having the oddest thing happening tonight. I'm not sure if it is peculiar to me, or just the gadget that I'm viewing the forum on, or if it might be happening for everyone and is something in the forum.

Every time I see a post from DaughterofEve her picture is different. Even if I just scroll down through messages and then scroll back up to her message again it changes. And it can't be her playing with her pic, as she is shown as all different people in the forum - I think just others in the same thread. So the photo beside DaughterofEve's name in posts (is that called her avatar) has tonight, on my screen, been many, many other people's pic. I don't know if other people's pics are changing too, but that is the only one I've noticed.

Is this happening for anyone else?

Fiona

  Has the forum been down??
Posted by: MargaretT - 01-17-2015, 07:19 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

Both today and yesterday I have been unable to access the forum... so that's mid afternoon Australian time ... probably middle of the night for somewhere in the US:) there is usually a page with  a message about MyBB.
Is there a regular something happening or is it just me? I dont have a problem with any other sites at that time.
