Nevermind: Technical Forum Changes: Nothing Has Changed
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 11-22-2014, 05:31 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (22)

Hello,

I noticed a change on the forum, the new delete button for individual posts. Are there any other new changes?

Or, am I just unobservant and the delete button has always been there?

I also wasn't sure how to title this thread. I was struggling for the words. If there is something better to call this, let me know.

confused about membership in private groups
Posted by: nectarhill - 11-21-2014, 12:18 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I recently submitted to join several of theprivate groups ,but dont know how this works, as I havent heard anything back.. Tonight I went to my user CP and when I looked at the private groups, it listed the very ones I had wanted to join , as that I am a member. does this mean its still pending? Am I already a member? If the latter, how do I then post or read any posts on them?..
TIA

  Using Code in Our Posts
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 11-16-2014, 12:52 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

What code are we able to use in our posts? Are we just limited to those things in the menu, or can we enter our own code to create things like tables, etc? My issue yesterday was wanting to add some spaces to the beginning of a line and the old school html [&nbsp] didn't work.

Gratefully,

Minor Issue with Term Charts on Main Site
Posted by: SimplyKaren - 11-13-2014, 09:20 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (16)

This is a very minor issue but I thought I would let you know about it. :)

When I go to print out the term charts from the pdf, not all of the vertical lines between each week print.

  Current Events Forum

Is someone moderating the Current Events Forum? If I don't see a post, can I assume it wasn't approved, or will I be notified?

  Manage Attachments
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 10-25-2014, 08:30 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

On the User CP, in the Menu column on the left there is sub-category called "Manage Attachments." I'm not sure of its purpose. Do we have the ability to attach files to our posts? I have only seen people use links to outside sources for attachments (like google docs).

What is the purpose of the time delay with searches?
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 10-25-2014, 08:20 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Sometimes when I'm frustrated by something, understanding the purpose helps me to accept it and move on. With a job I once had, I had to remind myself when I encountered what seemed to me to be a pointless rule someone had most likely paid for it with his life.

So...why is there a mandatory 30 second delay between searches? I encounter this frequently because I may use a word which comes up empty and I want to tweak it to try again. But then I have to wait 8 seconds or 2 seconds or 15 seconds until I search again.

Something else I encountered had a delay, but it only happened once. Right now I cannot seem to remember what it was.

I'm sorry if this comes across as, "Wah, wah, wah." I'm sure it does. I just want to understand, and after my many-eth time of asking myself, "I wonder why it does that?" I thought I would ask.

(I might have meant, "Wha, wha, wha." I'm not sure which is correct.)

  Boolean search?
Posted by: africanna - 10-16-2014, 07:31 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

What is the syntax for a boolean search? For instance, if I want to find where "Burgess" and "mockingbird" exist in the same thread, but not necessarily next to each other. Or a thread that has "homemade" but not "sewing." (Weird examples, I know, but you get the point. I don't have the brain power right now to come up with more clever examples.)

  How to post picture/avatar?
Posted by: CottageSchool - 10-16-2014, 11:09 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (8)

Okay, I'm finally going to ask because I cannot figure out how to include my picture with my posts (an avatar I suppose). It always says it is not the correct number of pixels and I have tried all types of pictures and gave up.

  "Quote This Post" Button
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 10-16-2014, 06:31 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (10)

How do I use the "Quote this post" button on the lower right corner of a post. I think I know what I would like it to do, but I have no idea what it actually does or how to do it.

Can I change my user name without starting a new account?
Posted by: MamaShepperd - 10-10-2014, 03:45 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (22)

Is it possible to change my user name without registering as a new member all over again? I decided my name may be a bit off-putting, and thought I'd like to change it something more... normal?
I don't see it as an option from my control panel, but maybe someone in admin has access to such a thing?

  Search trouble
Posted by: Kathy W. - 09-20-2014, 12:18 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (9)

I am finding that using the keyword search function is not working at all for me. I return zero results on threads/words I know exist, such as Book of Centuries or BOC or L'Harmas. I eventually find them on my own, but it would be nice if the search worked. This seems to only be a recent development. I'm using Safari on a Mac using OS 10.9.4

ATTN: Parents of teens - Do you know about the HEO Teen Area of the forum?
Posted by: MelisaH - 09-14-2014, 10:20 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (5)

Dear Parents,

As it is soon after the beginning of the traditional school year, we thought this was a good time to remind you about the HEO student area of the forum. For those parents who do not have students already participating in the HEO student area, but would like more information:

The HEO student area is comprised of 2 sections. There is an area in which only the HEO teens can interact, then a second area that allows the parents of HEO teens to interact with all the HEO teens. The second section is a great place for book discussions! The HEO teen areas are only viewable by the teens and the parents of said teens. Your student must be at least 13 to participate because of legalities with children and the internet and they must be actively using HEO for their homeschooling.

To have your teen join the HEO area, you can find more information here: https://amblesideonline.org/forum/showth...hp?tid=278

When signing your teen up to join, please be sure to go over both the rules for the forum in general and the rules that are specific to the HEO forum itself.

Am I allowed to post in "hot topics"?
Posted by: birdsintherain - 09-10-2014, 12:36 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Hopefully this is the right spot for this question. :) I just tried to post in hot topics and was told that new posts require moderation. Will my post be looked over and posted if it's approved?

Just want to make sure before spending too much time over there if I will not be allowed to post. :)

  Subscribe to Thread
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 09-07-2014, 05:56 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

I'm so laughing at myself. I have just discovered the little button right below where I am currently typing which allows e-mails related to this thread to be sent to me. I have written so many questions and not selected that little button. So now I'm hunting for (and having trouble remembering) what I wrote to see if there are any answers. "Sigh"

This forum is so well made, I'm thinking on my feet right now, that there might be a way for me to see all my personal posts/threads. I'm going hunting for that feature as soon as I post this.

Hopefully this helps someone on the less savvy side like I am.

Gratefully,
Dawn
