  Update your Email
Posted by: lklivingston - 06-04-2019, 12:42 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - No Replies

When you registered for the forum, you provided an email address.  That email address needs to be updated if you change the email that you actually use.  You can change it from a web browser (not from Tapatalk) this way:

Look for Control Panel at the upper left, below where it says AmblesideOnline and where it says Welcome back.
Click Control Panel, and it will take you to the User Control Panel.
On the left, in the middle, is a section called Your Profile.
Look for Change Email.

This is where you make changes to your account email address.  Please keep it up to date!  That will help us contact you.  That will help you get back in if you forget your password.

  Looking for Bridgette
Posted by: lklivingston - 05-02-2019, 10:59 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I am looking for the person whose username is bridgette cs.  She isn't on the forum right now, and that's my fault!  If you know her, will you ask her to contact us at amblesideonlinemoderators@gmail.com?  I've got her set up to get back in, but I emailed her old address instead of the new one and deleted the new one.   [I want to hide my head under a bag!]

  Avatar upside down
Posted by: adboise - 04-28-2019, 10:07 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (5)

I just changed my avatar so that it was a picture of me and it has loaded upside down. I've redone it a couple times with the same result. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  Search within a forum
Posted by: travelingmom - 04-04-2019, 12:43 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I feel bad asking questions if the same question has been asked a bunch of times before, so is there a way to search within a forum for keywords within threads?  I hope I'm being clear.

  AO Brochure
Posted by: lklivingston - 03-11-2019, 07:52 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Have you seen the "new" *official* AO brochure?  It's actually been linked from the website for quite awhile, but I don't think we ever announced it.  You can find it here:
https://amblesideonline.org/

Look for the link on the right, where it says, "Downloadable tri-fold brochure."

Be sure to open the file in Adobe Acrobat, and set it to print in Landscape and at the Actual Size.
If your printer duplexes, then select Flip On Short Edge.

  [split] Security error
Posted by: Barb Gifford - 02-02-2019, 11:07 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - No Replies

Edit: Rebooted my phone and search still doesn't work. Search does work on a 1st gen iPad.

Search box on the website isn’t working on my iPhone SE. I don’t know if it’s my new security update or not. I still get the this form is unsecure warning (I always get that warning when searching from the main page) BUT when I click submit it hangs and nothing happens whereas before it would complete the search.
I had the same problem yesterday while at a book sale. Turning off the WiFi made no difference so it doesn’t seem to be related to my house network. [Image: 1b95ee8b13b612d46748dd3425cc6801.jpg]

  Logging in and such
Posted by: pageta - 01-18-2019, 02:42 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

I am an infrequent user of this forum. When I do come here, I always have to reset my password. This morning was no exception. It sends me this activation code which takes several minutes to show up in my email so this morning I ended up with two of these. You take that code and enter it and then it sends me a new password made up by the forum and something I will never remember (hence always needing to go through the ordeal of resetting my password which takes at least ten minutes every time I venture over here...and you wonder why I never use the forum). I tried sending an email to "Contact Us" and it tried to automatically open my email program (which I do NOT use) and when I tried to copy the email address and use it instead, the email bounced back with an "invalid email address" - %20amblesideonlinemoderators@gmail.com

Every other website, when I need to reset my password, it always has me reset my own new password. This morning I spent an additional five minutes trying to figure out where to go to reset the password to something I could actually remember. The process is not intuitive nor is it user friendly. The program should automatically take you to a screen and require you to do this before entering the forums.

That should go without saying. Usually I come here because I have a question or am frustrated with something and am seeking help. To be greeted with more frustration due to poorly written software only serves to make things worse. I've had this happen so many times. I'm sure those who come here every day and have their password memorized or come here frequently enough that the website hasn't "forgotten them" know nothing of this frustration. I know the moderators get frustrated because people like using Facebook to ask questions rather than coming here. Well, perhaps this will help you understand why.

Also, as I type, the words appearing on the screen are so slow. They appear about a sentence behind what I have actually typed, making editing difficult and cumbersome. I don't have this problem anywhere else? Why here? So frustrating.

  Christmas Break 2018
Posted by: lklivingston - 12-11-2018, 03:02 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (17)

This is a VERY important announcement regarding our 2018 Christmas Break: The AO Forum and Facebook group will take a restful Holiday Break beginning on Saturday, December 15. We'll re-open the forum again on Charlotte Mason's birthday, Monday, January 1, and re-open the Facebook chat group on Monday, January 7. Thus, the Forum will be closed to posting for two weeks, and our Facebook group will be closed for a three week period.

Why are we taking this break? The CM method is about more than homeschooling; it's about life and relationships. We would like our AmblesideOnline family of members, moderators, Auxiliary and Advisory to step back from lessons and computers, and take time to savor the holidays with their loved ones.

Should you need AO information during the break, existing threads will remain available at the forum, and of course the AmblesideOnline website will remain up and running.

We encourage you all to explore AO's special Holiday pages during the break!

The Advisory's Favorite Holiday Stories and Poems:
http://www.amblesideonline.org/HolidaySt...oems.shtml

Holiday Carols and favorite CDs:
http://www.amblesideonline.org/HolidayCarols.shtml

And a Bonus!

An Advisory member's son, a "guinea pig" graduate, composed chorale music for a Chesterton Christmas poem, performed here by Milligan College: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZKH5GO9LGs

An AO graduate created this lovely collection of traditional music for Christmas, beautifully arranged for violin: A Violin for Christmas (affiliate link; mp3 download) http://amzn.to/1OmsPB8

May you find time to reflect on the meaning of Christmas, enjoy time with those you love, and be refreshed as you anticipate the coming year.

We wish you a Merry Christmas!

Year 7 Exam Answer key incomplete
Posted by: stonemasons - 12-03-2018, 05:43 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I posted this in another forum thread and was told to share it here as well.
I was just setting up the exams for my son and found the answer key for Term 1 for Grammar isn't complete. For #4, "Parse the italicized words", I don't see any answers as to what they are. Please let me know (yes, I admit, I'm very weak in grammar and I can't guarantee my child will get them right and I want to make sure he IS right). Thanks.

Important News Re: PayPal & #AOCM2019
Posted by: Donna-Jean - 11-01-2018, 10:42 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (19)

Hi all!

What an exciting morning!  Spots are filling up fast and furious!

One way you can help us: if your PayPal e-mail address is different from *your* e-mail address, can you note that on the form?  We are having some trouble lining up your payment with your e-mail confirmation, since we don't recognize your e-mail.

If you have gotten a confirmation already, all is well. If not, and you have two different e-mails involved, could you send us an e-mail with "Lining up my Paypal e-mail" in the subject line?

And if you are about to register and your PayPay e-mail address is different from *your* e-mail address, please note that in your form, OK?

What a morning!

Get a warning message on my phone
Posted by: LucyBeeH - 08-11-2018, 07:30 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (21)

Hi, I can get into the forum by typing in amblesideonline.org/forum, but when I click on, eg today's posts, I get a warning about people trying to steal my data, same if I try to click on any of the curriculum tabs.  I'm struggling to use the website at all on my phone, just the same warning over and over again.  Any ideas what is causing it?

Thanks

  year 5 bookmark confusion
Posted by: Fallon - 08-08-2018, 07:51 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

The year 5 bookmarks include 2 geography option bookmarks, but I don't see them listed anywhere on the schedule page. I can guess that the geography options are there for people who might not want to use Halliburton, or be able to get his books, but I still don't understand why they aren't listed as options on the schedule page in case someone doesn't realize there are bookmarks.

However, I cannot find What Everyone Should Know About the 20th Century on the schedule, and on the bookmark labeled year 5 additional history readings it shows a couple of chapters each in weeks 1 & 14 in CHOW & a few in AIS in term 3. Are those supposed to be on the schedule?

Thanks
