  Upcoming Forum Update for March/April
Posted by: MelisaH - 03-07-2015, 06:28 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (3)

There is a forum update that needs to be done soon. I wanted to give everyone a heads up that it is going to happen in the next week or so. This won't be as big of a deal as the upgrade was, thankfully.

I won't be trying to do this in the overnight hours this time. It is just too hard on my husband (my IT helper guy) and myself to stay up until the wee hours of the morning anymore (getting old, I guess).

So, if one of these days, you come to the forum to try to login right after dinner and find it is down, be patient with me. The update itself doesn't take long, but backing everything up before we do it does take a while.

  Searching the Forum
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 03-01-2015, 09:32 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - No Replies

I was wondering if it is possible to search the forum for a phrase without the words having to be an exact order match.

For example, I searched for "Christmas games," but the thread I wanted did not come up because the words in the thread were "games for Christmas." So although they were the same words, they were not in the same order and were not consecutive.

Update Link on AO Site Map
Posted by: trinitydaks - 02-18-2015, 11:41 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

The link on the Site Map that goes to the Combined schedules that were created by Missy Grey is no longer valid.
The whole site was removed in 2009.
However, her schedules are on the forum under Combined schedules.
Can we update the link somehow to link people to the Forum files?

How to View Posts Older then 24 Hours?
Posted by: Dawn Rhymer - 01-31-2015, 12:07 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Someone (I think Phyllis) shared how to view newer posts for a longer period than 24 hours, basically what "View Today's Posts" does but for more days (whatever one wants to set).  However, I don't remember into which thread this great information was buried.

Would you please share that syntax with us again?

  ATTN: Formatting trouble?
Posted by: Phyllis - 01-29-2015, 12:13 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

If you're having trouble with the formatting in your posts--particularly with copying and pasting--or if you just don't like WYSIWYG when typing, you can switch to source by clicking on the button that looks like a sheet of paper on the new reply or new post page. It's the last one of all the buttons there.

Also, you can switch the default for your account by going to your User CP and choosing Edit Options in the sidebar. Select "Put the editor in source mode by default" and save.

  Avatar changes

I've been having the oddest thing happening tonight. I'm not sure if it is peculiar to me, or just the gadget that I'm viewing the forum on, or if it might be happening for everyone and is something in the forum.

Every time I see a post from DaughterofEve her picture is different. Even if I just scroll down through messages and then scroll back up to her message again it changes. And it can't be her playing with her pic, as she is shown as all different people in the forum - I think just others in the same thread. So the photo beside DaughterofEve's name in posts (is that called her avatar) has tonight, on my screen, been many, many other people's pic. I don't know if other people's pics are changing too, but that is the only one I've noticed.

Is this happening for anyone else?

Fiona

  Has the forum been down??
Posted by: MargaretT - 01-17-2015, 07:19 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

Both today and yesterday I have been unable to access the forum... so that's mid afternoon Australian time ... probably middle of the night for somewhere in the US:) there is usually a page with  a message about MyBB.
Is there a regular something happening or is it just me? I dont have a problem with any other sites at that time.

I used to be able to copy and paste my replies from my notes directly into the reply box and there was no font or color change. My posts looked like everyone else's posts. Now they don't. They stick out and it's embarrassing. I feel awkward about posting if mine are going to look so different. Maybe they just look different to me? I hope. Right now I'm typing directly in the box. Here's an example of me pasting:

This is so horrible for me because I have to use my notes to check for mistakes and edit my replies. If I try to use delete inside a post I get bumped.

Please help.

  Really STUPID and POINTLESS question...
Posted by: redhed - 01-16-2015, 12:07 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

... but when it says that there have been "4564 views", is that counting separate people? Or does it count me each time I look at that thread?

This really doesn't matter. At all. I'm just curious. It's things like this that keep me up at night...

Having trouble logging onto the forum on kindle
Posted by: kellypetrie - 01-15-2015, 08:46 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (9)

Hi! For some reason, I can no longer access the forum on my kindle. When I enter my user name and password it says I have been successfully been logged in and then it takes me right back to the previous page and I am still a guest. I logged in and out on my pc and my daughters kindle without any trouble. What in the world am I doing wrong? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

  Forum Runner plugin
Posted by: MaryFrances - 01-11-2015, 11:34 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Since the last forum update I haven't been able to post to the Forums from the ForumRunner app. It says there is a parsing error that is perhaps related to an outdated plugin.

I was going to not bother with asking you to fix it and just switch to Tapatalk. But honestly, after a week of Tapatalk, I'm ready for my Forum Runner back. It's so much easier to navigate and you don't see any of the car stuff!!

Weird Pinterest link in my posts
Posted by: Lisa-v - 01-09-2015, 08:56 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (8)

I'm not sure why, but quite often when I'm posting now, there is a link to pinterest that just shows up without me adding it - I have not idea what it's for or why it shows up.

How do I keep this from happening or do I just need to edit the post to delete it if I notice it showing up?

I can't get used to the new "New Posts" icon
Posted by: Kelly Cumbee - 01-08-2015, 04:25 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (15)

The dark ones look like they're off and the pale ones look like they're lit up, so I keep expecting the pale ones to mean New Posts.  I'll have to make my brain read the dark ones as full and the pale ones as empty, or something like that, so I can remember what's what.

[Ha ha ha ha!]

  What am I doing wrong?
Posted by: MaggieAnnie - 01-05-2015, 01:41 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (5)

Any ideas...every time I have hit backspace in a post for editing today it has kicked me back into the previous page, just like if I had hit back on my browser button...and when I hit forward on my browser  my whole post  in progress is gone.

It is making me all [I am so mad!] to have to re-type all my posts 2 or 3 times ...I should jsut leave my bad spelling, sigh.

I am so not techy ...any idea what I am doing wrong..this has never happened before and usually if I accidentally browse away when I browse back my post draft is intact...

thanks

How many use tapatalk? Lately I have been seeing a lot of car stuff under trending, but with the ambleside forum header on it. It has been driving me nuts. Is there a way to stop it or turn trending off?

  'likes'
Posted by: DaughterofEve - 01-04-2015, 04:20 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

I am really enjoying the new look, its so much easier to use.

Just one little question - in the old format we could access our 'likes' list. I really appreciated that - it seemed to be the equivalent of a head nod or murmur of agreement if we were sitting together in conversation.  I cant seem to find this feature in the new format, although there is the little info box in the top right of every post.

If there is a way to access the list, or add this feature, I'd really appreciate it.

I am not sure if I am just old and blind suddeenly or if the color scheme has shifted but even with my glasses i am having trouble making out the dark grey text on the dark Blue forum background...specifically the search , member list and help buttons...The symbols luckily make it clear that the links are there but the text is very difficult to read...I did adjest my display but that is not it. Did those button shift places/color in the upgrade? Is it possible to give the text greater contrast?

Not to nitpick...I do like the upgrade [Live long and prosper...]  I just noticed after looking all over for the search box!
