  LD/Special needs
Posted by: HisBlondeGirl - 12-09-2012, 12:15 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

I have heard of the LD/SN group, but I can't find it. Can you tell me where to find this group? I have adapted the curriculum, but it would be nice to be a part of that group.

Thanks

Would it be possible to make this forum TapaTalk "friendly"?

  NEW! Friend finder
Posted by: Phyllis - 11-29-2012, 04:34 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (27)

On the Yahoo group there was a database where members could add their locations and look to see if there were other AO families near them. We've just added something similar here.

How to add yourself to the database
1) Go to your UserCP (Control Panel).
2) Click "Edit Profile."
3) Choose your region from the list. Below this (not visible on the picture) you can type in more: your city, state, part of the state, county, etc. Whatever you're comfortable with. Don't put your specific address or phone number! When you're done, click "Update Profile" at the bottom of the page.

How to find people close to you
Click on the Member List at the 4 in the picture above. Scroll down to the bottom and find the "Advanced Search." Click through to that, select your region from the list and search. (I'm still wanting to get that search option out on to the member listing and maybe make the whole list searchable by region, but I haven't gotten there yet.)

  Trade & feedback list?
Posted by: zami - 11-23-2012, 08:37 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Is there anywhere we can:

1 - leave feedback for members after sales/trades?

2 - post a personal "will trade" list? I'm about to make a "for sale" post, but I'm willing to trade too... my list is ridiculously long though! I was thinking, it might be easier to just link to a "my wanted list" somewhere. But I don't know where, if anywhere, that would be appropriate to post.

  Exam question and mistake
Posted by: Kristin - 11-15-2012, 01:22 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (9)

Hi! Where do I report a mistake on an exam? I guess I'll just mention it here. On the Year 5 Term I exam there is a geography question about Machu Pichu. That "marvel" is not studied until Term II.

  books for sale?
Posted by: Kari Ellen - 11-05-2012, 05:22 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I have some AO books for sale. Is there a forum for selling/buying books? I've looked and haven't seen one Thanks.

  Music Change: 2012-2013 Term 3 Opera/Composer Study
Posted by: LeslieNoelani - 10-27-2012, 10:46 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (2)

The opera overtures have been adjusted to a term of opera overtures and arias, with a couple of CD's suggested as resources. The selections were suggested by AO graduate Hannah Hoyt, who loves opera (and who also happens to be my daughter-in-law! :) )

You can see what's scheduled on the AO website here: http://www.amblesideonline.org/ComposerS...r_thisterm

Science Change: Years 2 and 3/Pagoo
Posted by: LeslieNoelani - 10-26-2012, 03:48 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Apparently a number of people were already doing this, so this might be more of a formality than a change.

Pagoo has moved from Year 2 to Year 3. This allows The Burgess Animal Book to be spread more slowly throughout Year 2, and it rounds out Year 3's science readings, which only had one book (Secrets of the Woods) scheduled so that much of the year had no science reading being done.

The weekly schedules have been changed as well. Now both years have science readings evenly spread throughout the terms.

Report Typos on AO's Kindle editions
Posted by: LeslieNoelani - 10-24-2012, 03:36 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (24)

AO has started creating Kindle versions of some of the public domain texts we use. If you find a typo in one, you can report it here and we'll try to fix it.

Typos in Kindle editions of books that we did not create, well, we can't do anything about those, even if we link to the Kindle book from our website. ;)

I'm going to be moving some posts from the website typos thread to this one.

  Printable version of a thread
Posted by: AngeliqueK - 10-18-2012, 02:31 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I would like to be able view all pages of the "printable version" of a thread. Is this possible?

I am currently copying page by page to send to my Instapaper account (and later to my kindle) for reading. Thx.

  instant email notification not working
Posted by: robeliken - 10-17-2012, 07:07 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

Hi ladies-
I notice that when I reply to a thread and choose "Subscribe to Thread with instant email notification" it does not work. Sometimes I will get one email with the next person's reply, but after that it stops sending me emails. When I go to my profile and check Thread Subscriptions, I am still subscribed, with email notification ... am I missing something?
Thx-

Unable to use Bold and Italic Features on the Forum
Posted by: Dawn Duran - 10-15-2012, 08:26 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (13)

I just posted some discussion threads and was unable to use the bold and italic fonts within the post as I have previously done. [undefined] appeared at the start and end of the intended section rather than the usual [b] [i].

  Insert hyperlink not working?
Posted by: lklivingston - 10-15-2012, 05:32 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

"insert hyperlink" is not working for me right now. Is it just me? When I click the button, I get an "undefined" tag, like this:
[undefined=undefined][/undefined]

It may be a problem on my end, but I've already tried my obvious fixes so I wanted to check before I dig deeper.

  Bookmarks?
Posted by: Jane Fettig - 10-10-2012, 09:03 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Ok, so I am really enjoying reading the post of "So are there any...." and I am up to 71 of 164 posts. Can we say that is going to take a while. Any who, I am thinking, is there a way to bookmark so that you can jump right in reading where you last left off?
Just wondering.

  Search not working correctly
Posted by: lklivingston - 10-04-2012, 01:31 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

I was searching for a particular thread and could not find it via the Search function. I manually looked for the thread, then tried to find out why it hadn't come up in my searches. After doing several tests, I finally tested the Search feature by copying the subject from the thread and pasting it into the search box. Nothing was returned.

The text I entered was "a child's history of the world" (without the quotes).

Since this is the actual subject of the thread, why does it not show up in the search results?

Can we upload a picture from our computer to a post?
Posted by: JoyH - 10-03-2012, 07:20 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

When I click on the picture icon, it wants a URL, does that mean the photo has to already be on the web? That we can't upload from our own computer?

Thanks.

Anyway to Get ALL the Emails in a Thread?
Posted by: Annie HL - 10-02-2012, 06:33 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Hi Phyllis,
Is there any way to get ALL the emails generated in a particular thread?

Some of the threads are <ahem> rather verbose [:P cheesy, cheesy!] and I find that, by the time I get back online to check the forum, I may be too far gone to catch up.

I do check email throughout the day, which is more often than I check in on my forum subscriptions (once a day), and if I was getting regular emails on one particular thread (the HONS for Parents thread) I would be better able to keep up.

  Unable to log in?
Posted by: Phyllis - 09-28-2012, 07:57 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (8)

If you have any problems logging in, please do not hesitate to email me (fylliska@gmail.com).

It seems that sometimes when members forget their passwords, the automatic password reset feature doesn't work. If that happens to you, don't panic. :) Just email me, and I'll reset it manually. I do my best to answer requests for help as soon as possible, so you shouldn't have to wait for long. We don't want anyone to be "locked out" of the forum!

Body of Post Hiding Post Options
Posted by: Katie Barr - 09-25-2012, 12:15 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (17)

When I am typing a post, the body extends into the area for choosing post options. The only post option I can see is "Disable Smilies". Is there some way to fix this? I feel like I did fix it earlier, but I've forgotten how to do it.

Could the "Subscribe to this thread" link be moved to the top of the page?
Posted by: Grace Academy - 09-24-2012, 03:57 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

It would be great if it could -- I often like to subscribe before I've read an entire thread, and sometimes scrolling to the bottom of the page takes awhile.
