  AO Kindle Poetry
Posted by: Christo et Doctrinae - 08-18-2014, 08:50 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

I wanted to alert someone that at least two of the poetry years do not have the direct links to Amazon for those who wish to purchase the poetry collections for Kindle which Wendi has put together. I only looked at Years 5 and 6, so someone would need to check the other years.

  New posts not showing up
Posted by: ozark mama - 08-09-2014, 02:23 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

For some reason Hot Topics posts are only occasionally showing up under the "view new posts" option for me. It's not a big deal - just wanted to let you know that usually they aren't there even when there is a new post. :) Thanks!

  Hot topics?
Posted by: CopperBoom - 08-07-2014, 03:44 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

Hi, I mostly read this forum on my phone so I don't post much, but I was trying to read a topic that was discussed in older thread I was reading, and it appears it was moved to hot topics? How do I access that?

Thanks!

  Help me find...gifted forum???
Posted by: Kristina - 07-29-2014, 02:37 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

I have been doing some reading here on the board and came across some posts that advise member to post/read the "gifted forum". I cannot find this at all! Has it been removed? Is it a private forum? I would like very much to know more about it. :)

Lightbulb Search suggestion
Posted by: MelisaH - 07-28-2014, 09:52 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

A comment that was made to me at the recent CM Retreat in Peoria, IL was that someone was struggling with searches on the forum. I shared with them a small hint and figured I should suggest it here.

When you are searching, rather than leaving the default for Display Options at "Threads", change the Display Option to "Posts". This little area is on the lower right side of the screen of the Search page.

Then, instead of having to search through entire (LONG!) threads for your keyword results, it displays each post that contained that word.

I hope this helps!

  how to use yahoo groups
Posted by: africanna - 07-26-2014, 02:01 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (12)

I feel really ridiculous asking this, but do I have to have a yahoo account to access the files on the yahoo groups? I keep running into problems (but part of the problem is that we have really slow internet access, and I keep getting interrupted when I sit down to work on it), so I decided to just put my pride on the line and ask the obvious. Thanks!

  "favorite" thread bookmarks??
Posted by: jbg1131 - 07-12-2014, 05:32 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

Ok, DH is getting irritated b/c I have so many tabs open right now;)
How do I make a favorites list or bookmark threads that I want to refer back to?
I saw the thread about clicking on the green arrow by the title of the thead to bring me to my last read post w/i the thread, but I'm not seeing a way to mark certain threads as my favorites so I can easily reference back.
THanks!
Jenny

  Advisory/Auxiliary: AO on the Go
Posted by: greenmangomama - 07-11-2014, 02:27 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

Hi,

I don't know the best place to post this question for the Advisory/Auxiliary, so I'm inquiring here.

I don't know why the AO on the Go page on the Ambleside Online site got the axe, but could the Webmaster please bring it back? Pretty please?

I use my mobile most of the time, and I miss the ease of navigating AO by way of that page which was optimized for mobile use.

Thank you!

Forum emails going to spam box
Posted by: Mvmtqueen - 07-07-2014, 06:09 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

Hi,
I don't know what changed but some time ago I noticed I wasn't getting any emails from Ambleside subscriptions. Checked my spam box and there they were. Have tried unsuccessfully to fix this. I'm using yahoo mail. Can somebody help?
Thanks,
Erin

  AO Science!
Posted by: Lani - 06-26-2014, 04:50 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (33)

Ambleside Online proudly announces that we at AO are creating our own course of science instruction that is closer to Charlotte Mason's principles in the upper years as a replacement to previous suggestions to use a textbook such as Apologia. The overall plan moved "Secrets of the Universe" up a year, replacing it in Year 6 with "The Mystery of the Periodic Table" and "The Elements" as preparation for chemistry topics. Users will also find an addition to year 4 as well as additional science free reads in years 6 and 7. Years 6 and 7 are posted on the AO booklists and schedules, and AO will be transitioning Years 8-12 as completed. Those who prefer to use Apologia (or another program) may still do so, and the change doesn't need to affect them at all. The switch to a more "living" style of science is an exciting work in progress. Stay tuned for further updates, information on implementation, etc. As always, those with children pursuing STEM fields will need to ensure upper level course requirements for college admission are met.

  My tweaks to 36-week schedules....
Posted by: Jenn in CA - 06-19-2014, 04:19 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (8)

Here are some things I've done to customize the 36-week schedules that I thought I'd pass on. I am somewhat of a formatting geek. I also loooove "at-a-glance" type schedules such as having an entire Term on one sheet. [I'm not suggesting these should be permanent changes, just things that made them easier for me to use.]

1. I turned the whole page to portrait format. No more turning the binder 90 degrees.
2. I added an extra row above "subject" and put the month above each week. Now I can see, for ex., that Sept. has 5 weeks, that I will only do 3 weeks in Nov and Dec, etc.
3. I made a darker line separating the columns between each month. Now I know at a glance what the goal is for each month.

Little tweaks, but they help me a lot to see where we're going, when to do it, etc.

Question on Y1 and Y3 bookmarks
Posted by: Learning with my little ones! - 06-10-2014, 02:32 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

Hi there. I was printing bookmarks that were linked to in this thread. In looking at them, the CHOW and the Bible bookmarks have errors. Actually--several others do as well--including the Y1 Bible bookmarks. Black bars show up instead of text. This is such a fabulous idea, and I wish I could print all of them--especially the ones with the Bible texts. Is there another version of these somewhere? The link to the google doc file views correctly, but when you try to download or print, it no longer looks correct--the black bars appear. Is there a link to corrected pdf files anywhere?

Thanks!

Beginning AO link for Donna-Jean Breckenridge's use of AO
Posted by: jbg1131 - 06-10-2014, 05:54 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (10)

Hi!
I am reading the "Beginning AO" page about getting started where it refers to Donna-Jean Breckenridge's 'How I use AO' and 'How I teach AO'. The link to view this post doesn't appear to be active. Is there a way/place to view it?

Thanks!

  Friend Finder

Is there any way to actually use the Friend Finder field in the member information to find all members from a particular region (of those who identified their region)? I am probably missing something obvious, but I can't figure out how to search or sort by that field.

There is a minor update that needs to be done on the forum. I hope to do this one night this weekend after the little ones are in bed. It should not take very long and hopefully, the side effects should not be as they are when we do an upgrade.
