  Signatures getting cut off
Posted by: harmonyml - 08-14-2012, 03:47 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Has anyone else noticed this? I've noticed that a lot of signatures are getting cut off at the bottom of the posts. Is this a problem with my browser, or a forum issue?

Can I email forums or threads?
Posted by: islavet - 08-14-2012, 02:43 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (10)

Although I did install the Forum Runner app which lets me read the forum on my iPod Touch when I have wi fi, I REALLY would like a way to read things offline. That's the thing I really like about the Yahoo Groups; I can get the daily digest by email and read it when I'm out and about. Don't get me wrong, I like the organization of the forum! I THOUGHT Kathy Livingston said there was a way to have threads emailed to myself and read them offline, but I may have misunderstood. I have chosen the "email when a new post is made" button, but I would like to be able to scan through the threads (on the computer or Forum Runner), and easily choose several to "store" (via email??) to read later offline. Any ideas? Or is this impossible? :-(

Thanks!

I was just wondering, how does the label New Member/Regular Member, etc. get assigned? Does New Member mean new to the forum? When does that change?

  Warning Level
Posted by: Mommyof3boys - 08-11-2012, 04:29 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (5)

Hello,

Thank you for this forum! I did have a question. When I look at a post I have just posted, in the top right of the post under my post count it says Warning Level 0%. What does that mean? Am I in trouble? Thanks so much!

  files in yahoo groups
Posted by: Annette W. - 08-11-2012, 06:55 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

Sorry if I am in the wrong forum for this question, but will all the files in the AO groups in Yahoo also be transferred to the forum? Is that even possible? overwhelming? necessary? I ask in my ignorance for how these things work.
Thanks, Annette in MD

A link to forum from Home or Site Map?
Posted by: Annette W. - 08-11-2012, 01:02 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Hi.
Unless I missed it, which is quite possible, is there a link to the forum from any other location on ambleside.org like there is from the Forum to the other areas?
Thanks, Annette

  Font Size Increased?
Posted by: Christo et Doctrinae - 08-10-2012, 07:17 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Did someone increase the font size for the entire forum? Everything suddenly looks very big. That's not the case on other websites, so I'm thinking it's here???

  Overwhelmed?
Posted by: Phyllis - 08-08-2012, 08:47 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

There's so much here that it is really easy to be overwhelmed! Plus, change is hard, isn't it? If you're coming over here from just one AO Yahoo group, there's just so much more than there was before. This forum is something like all the various Yahoo groups, joined together under one roof.

My best tip for avoiding being overwhelmed is that I have just subscribed to five forums. My bookmark to come into the forum is my "Forum Subscriptions" page. (That link should go to your subscriptions, not mine. :) ) So, all I see at first is the few that I'm most interested in. If there's nothing new in them, then I go on to other areas.

How do you all avoid being overwhelmed? Please add your tips here!

PM Download/Export --Where do they go?
Posted by: Christo et Doctrinae - 08-07-2012, 09:03 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

Hi,

I just maxed out my storage limit for PMs, so I opted to download and export all of my folders. I assumed that this would go to my computer at some oint, and so chose the option to delete them from my folders once they were exported. I followed the steps, was presented with a page with all of my messages, but there was never given an option to download/export them to my computer. Did I miss it?

Please splain to me what I need to do next time.

Thanks!

  TIP: Multiple quotes
Posted by: Phyllis - 08-06-2012, 09:20 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

When you want to quote more than one person, the easiest way to do that is the little button that looks like a plus sign:

Click on that plus by each post that you want to quote. Once you've clicked on it, it will change to a minus, and you can click on that again, if you change your mind. When you get to the end, you'll see the little message I have circled. Of course, you'll still need to clip all the quotes down to just the part that applies to what you're writing, but they will all be there for you.

I also just discovered that if you click the plus sign on one thread, and then go to another, you can quote from the first thread there, too. That could come in handy sometimes.

I clicked on the RSS feed at the bottom of the page, thinking that I may have found the solution to my problem of 'having' log-in here to view complete posts. When it took me to the page to choose forums to subscribe to, there were only two options. Is this still a work in progress?

I've noticed that I'm not receiving notices of posts in my subscribed forums/threads until many hours (half-a-day sometimes) after they are posted; at other times they come pretty quickly. Is this what we should expect or is this a known glitch?

Thanks.

  Sorting Posts
Posted by: Christo et Doctrinae - 08-04-2012, 08:56 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

I briefly tried to figure out what I'm missing, but then decided to do it this easy way by asking here.

When I come to look at posts, I opt for "View New Posts" or "View Today's Posts" to begin.

Once that page pulls up, I opt to sort by forum. I think the default sort is descending according to time posted.

After I've chosen to sort by forum, next to "Forum" will then read [desc]. When I read the forum names, they are combined somewhat, but jumbled and appear to be sorted by ??? I can't figure it out.

Alphabetically speaking, when I sort by [desc] they are sorted "M,E,F,L" ... Wait, is it sorting by the ascending and descending order according to how they're listed on the main forum page?

YES! That must be it. I just looked and that's what it seems to be doing.

I'm sorry, but I can't recall what order everything is in on that page. Could we cause it to sort forums alphabetically like it does with user names?

Just curious....I noticed that members are identified in several ways... new member, junior member, regular member, etc. What determines the category of membership?

Typo? History of English Literature, Marshall
Posted by: dahlhouse - 08-04-2012, 05:36 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

I didn't really find a forum for asking this specific question since it covers a book scheduled from years 7-10. So if this question should be asked somewhere else please direct me.

I posted this on HEO recently but no one ever responded (not that this is an earth shattering question or anything) so I thought I'd try again here on the forums.

While planning the chapters from this book for Year 10 I noticed that a total of 6 chapters are totally skipped. There are 3 chapters left out between years 8 and 9 and another 3 chapters left out between years 9 and 10. The ones that are left out are chapters 60-62 covering Dryden and Defoe and chapters 74-76 covering Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Southey. Was this intentional or an oversight? And if these authors were intentionally left out, what was the reason? I'm pretty sure every other chapter in the book is scheduled over the course of years 7-10. It was funny to me because I didn't even notice skipped chapters when I was planning year 9 last year.

Thanks much,
Linda

  Stickies?

I believe there might be a way to "stick" certain posts so that they stay at the top of a subforum. Which would be great as new members continue to join. ie the welcome msg in music.
