  Time Zone?
Posted by: HollyBrown - 09-01-2012, 09:53 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

Is there a way to change the time zone to match my own? As I type this, at the top of the screen it is saying "Current time: (date), 11:51" I am in Florida, so it is actually 7:51. When I am skimming through posts, and seeing "Mary posted at 11:35pm" and it's not even close to 11 here, it is hard to figure how long ago the posts were! Thanks.

  Another New Subforum?
Posted by: suzukimom - 09-01-2012, 03:17 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

I was wondering if there was a possibility of having a new Subforum area similar to the AO International - but for people wanting to discuss modifications due to religion.

It could have a few standard threads (like in the Math area for the curriculums)...

ie -

Catholic
LDS
Jewish
other????

It just seems more specific than the general book substitutions forum....

Just a thought...

  Certificates
Posted by: suzukimom - 08-31-2012, 03:32 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

When the AO forum moved to the new server, there was a day or so that my computer would warn me that the site's certificate could not be authenticated... It was fine after that...

However, on my Windows 7 phone (not using any program other than IE on the phone) I get that warning still - for Every Page I look at. So I basically can't access the site on my phone anymore.

  No signature
Posted by: Mamaprepper - 08-31-2012, 03:21 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (11)

I have accessed my "CP" and added the signature I want added to my posts and checked the boxes (I believe) that say 'enable signature to all posts', but my posts still don't have my signature in them. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
~Raya

What do those little white rectangles on the left of a thread mean?
Posted by: JoyH - 08-31-2012, 01:31 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (5)

I can't seem to find a key to tell me what all the different colors and dots mean. I've figured out a few, but not all of it. Can someone clue me in?

Link to Forum from Home Page

I noticed that there's no link to the forum from the home page. I think this would be a nice feature when/if you're able to do that.

Is there a way to go to the first unread post on a thread?
Posted by: TKDmom - 08-29-2012, 02:03 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (20)

When I come back to read new replies on a thread that I have previously read, is there any way to just go directly to the first unread post? I have been scrolling down to figure out which posts I've already read, but it would be so much more convenient to have a button at the top of the thread that says "view first unread" or something like that.

An option to favorite a post or thread?
Posted by: lesamcmahon - 08-27-2012, 12:48 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

I don't know the limitations of the bulletin board but is there an option available that can make it so we can favorite a post or thread and see those options in our User CP so we can go back to them later? That would make it much easier to keep track of those things that we might need in the future.

  Difference on Windows 7 PHONE
Posted by: suzukimom - 08-26-2012, 04:15 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Not a huge deal, but something I noticed when I was in the hospital (old server time), and still occurs now (new server I'm guessing) when I access the forum on my Windows 7 phone. (so my phone OS is Windows 7 - phone)

The little green arrow to take you to the first message in a thread that you haven't read doesn't work on the Windows 7 phone... it takes you to the message page that has the first message you haven't read - but at the top of that page of messages. So then I have to scroll down to find where I need to start reading the thread.

It is a minor annoyance... but kind of weird that it works great on my computer, but not on my phone.

PM and Like buttons missing when using Android
Posted by: NaomiG - 08-25-2012, 07:21 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (8)

When I read posts on my Android two buttons are completely blank - the PM button and the Like button. If I click the blank space it still makes the action, but buttons are missing. Not sure why this would only happen when I access it via my Android.

told I cannot access a thread?
Posted by: MelindaB - 08-24-2012, 09:54 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (6)

Hello!
I subscribed to the "Music" forum, and today got an email informing that there was a new thread. In the email it provides an URL to click on to go to that thread. When I clicked on this, I got the following message telling me I could not access the page. I copied the message I got, here it is:

"You do not have permission to access this page. This could be because of one of the following reasons:
Your account has either been suspended or you have been banned from accessing this resource.
You do not have permission to access this page. Are you trying to access administrative pages or a resource that you shouldn't be? Check in the forum rules that you are allowed to perform this action.
Your account may still be awaiting activation or moderation. (Resend Activation Code)
You have accessed this page directly rather than using appropriate forms or link.

You are currently logged in with the username: 'MelindaB' "

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong, or have I got something set up incorrectly?

Thanks so much!
Melinda

Cleaning out PMs -- trash or delete?
Posted by: KayPelham - 08-22-2012, 08:39 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

What is the difference between moving PMs to Trash Can and Deleting them?

Is there a way to archive them or some of them? Okay, I'm going back over there to see if "Trash Can" is a folder for archiving.

Forum Read (blue dot with arrow)
Posted by: Christo et Doctrinae - 08-22-2012, 05:06 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

When I'm looking at my messages through forum subscription link, I am unable to mark the forum/subforum as 'read' by clicking the blue icon with the white arrow in it.

However, if I go directly to the forum/subforum and read it there, I am able to click the icon and mark the forum as 'read'.

I would much prefer to only have to go through the subscribed forum link because I have to wade through all of the other forums (...cuz I tend to get sidetracked and waste a lot of time when I have to do that!).

I'm using Firefox 14.0.1

  Please turn on PMs!
Posted by: Phyllis - 08-21-2012, 02:03 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (4)

Please, as a general courtesy, turn on Private Messages in your User Control Panel. Especially if you're going to send them! I'm hearing from people who get PMs, but are unable to answer them, because people have them disabled.

If you need help, this thread explains what to do.

If you have an extra special reason to keep them turned off, that's okay. (We have them turned off for teen users, so that their parents will be able to monitor all their conversations.) Otherwise, please do leave them enabled.

Thank you!

How do I get back to the main page?
Posted by: christseeker - 08-20-2012, 07:17 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

After spending some time looking around within the different forums I found myself not knowing how to return to the main/home page of the forum. I eventually had to click "back" button multiple times to get to the main/home page. Is there a button somewhere to get me home with one click?

My dd is going into Y4 and from reading the archives I decided to make a substitution for Kidnapped. So should I post the question of substitution to the year 4-6 forum or the books substitution forum?

  HOW TO: Turn on PMs
Posted by: Phyllis - 08-19-2012, 05:39 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (13)

Private messages are turned off/on in your User Control Panel. You can quickly tell if yours are turned off by looking under any post you've made: do you see a PM button there?

Turning them back on is easy:

  1. Go to your UserCP
  2. Click "Edit Options"
  3. Check the box by "Receive private messages from other users."
  4. Click "Update Options" at the bottom of the page to save (not shown).
