Possible Error in the Y1 Scheduled Bible Readings?
Posted by: Sixblueirises - 10-27-2023, 06:06 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (7)

I noticed that the NT readings scheduled in week 9 don’t seem to align with the weeks around them, and was wondering if this is an error in the schedule. Perhaps a holdover from before the Bible reading update that took place this year?

If there is a better place to submit this, please forgive me! I couldn’t find an email link so settled on the Forum.

Thanks so much for your help.

  Our book is here!
Posted by: Donna-Jean - 10-16-2023, 09:40 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (13)

It's here!

We are thrilled to announce that our book, "Six Voices, One Story: The Heart of AmblesideOnline" is available at Amazon.com in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle (audible yet to come). This book is written by the AmblesideOnline Advisory: Donna-Jean Breckenridge, Lynn Bruce, Wendi Capehart, Karen Glass, Leslie Laurio, and Anne White. It's the story of how we created AmblesideOnline and how God nurtured our friendship and continues to sustain us through over twenty years of working together.

The AmblesideOnline Advisory began as a band of mothers who followed God and the vitalizing ideas of Charlotte Mason, and who along the way were blessed with an enduring and extraordinary friendship. Six Voices, One Story: The Heart of AmblesideOnline tells how this free curriculum was created, and shares our heart for "education for all."

We pray that this will be a blessing in your life. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

Did you know that AO has a YouTube channel?  We host a few videos of our own there, and on the Community page we link to other videos that we think would be helpful.

too many auto-subscribe posts to follow, how to unsubscribe

Hello!

I have been on the forum since its inception. I needing to unsubscribe to many of the posts. Is there a way to unsubscribe to everything all at once, and then be able to go back in and find the subforums that I want? And even the few posts that I still want to follow.

I am also planning to be much more careful about which posts I choose to follow.

Thank you!

  Archipelago Errors

Not sure where else to post this. On the Archipelago blog, the link to the Raffi YouTube video for Aikendrum led to an unlisted video for me this morning. I did a quick search and found this alternative, which I haven't listened to yet. (Not that I would know if it was different from any other version, since this morning is the first time I've heard of the song. [cheesy grin] )

Wondering about a link to Amazon.ca?
Posted by: Laura in Ontario - 08-09-2023, 04:38 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Hi there,
I know there is an affiliate link to Amazon.com at the top of the forum. There are many Canadian users here, and I am one of them, who use Amazon.ca quite often but never Amazon.com. I'm wondering if it might be possible to set up an affiliate link to Amazon.ca also? I personally would use it faithfully and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It would be great to be able to give a little back to contribute to the running of the forum.

Just an idea!  :)

Thanks

You Can Give Back to the AO/CM Community By Typing
Posted by: LeslieNoelani - 08-03-2023, 12:16 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

AO is offered as a gift; we don't charge any money to use it, or require anything from our users, but sometimes people want to know -- "Is there something I can do to give back to the AO community?"

You can type vintage Parents' Review articles!

These are magazine articles that Charlotte Mason edited and sent out to parents who were using her methods back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many articles have been uploaded as page images at archive.org, thanks to Redeemer College, who has given us permission to post these articles in printable, searchable text for the benefit of the CM community at large.

Basically, you claim an article that Cathleen has posted at the top of this page. Unfortunately, you do need to be a member of the forum to access the page.

Pick whatever article sounds interesting to you. Cathleen has linked to page images of the article. Respond in that article's thread to let Cathleen know you're "claiming" that article so nobody is re-typing what's already typed.

Type your article into a plain text file (like Notepad). When you're done, paste the typed text right into the thread as a response, and I'll format it into html and post it to the AO website. I do go back and proofread all the articles . . . eventually.

If you'd like more specific guidelines, there are Formatting Instructions, but if you'd rather not get too detailed, typing is enough. I'm too slow a typist to make any progress by typing myself, but I can work with typed text pretty quickly and add any formatting or make adjustments.

We are currently working on Volume 15 (1904) and we hope to fill in all the volumes up to Volume 17.

You can view or read all of the Parents' Review articles that have been typed over the years by AO volunteers at our Table of Contents listing on the AO website.

Orphan Accounts - Do you have one?
Posted by: lklivingston - 08-01-2023, 11:45 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - No Replies

I am slowly cleaning up old inactive accounts.  It's a manual process, so I'll never finish, but it helps keep usernames available.  I know there are other orphan accounts out there that people created and then replaced with another account because of an email change or some other problem.  If you have an old account that you aren't using, I can merge it with your current account so all your posts are connected to you, or if you haven't made any posts on it I can delete it if you'd prefer.  (Merging would keep your original start date, in case you want to look cool.)

You can post here or you can PM me here on the forum or you can email aoforum@amblesideonline.org to let me know about your orphan account.

  Possible Link Change in Y8?
Posted by: COMama - 08-01-2023, 01:58 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

On the Y8 Spiritual Formation list, the link for To A Different Drum: The Autobiography of Pauline Hamilton sends you to an out of print edition that is pretty pricey ($35 and up). It looks like the book has been republished, and is now available new for $12.99. Unless there is a difference in the editions, it might be helpful to update that link.

Missing links under Years 9-10-11 1st Year Booklist
Posted by: AndreaMM - 07-26-2023, 02:26 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Under the Historical Documents, weeks 1-4 are listed on the chart we download, but not under the Historical Documents with links.

The DOC chart has the following listed:
Week 1: "2 letters; Sarah Bibber"
Week 2: "Mary Osgood; Letter to John Foster; People; Tituba; Mathers"
Week 3: "Wesley sermon: Free Grace
Week 4: "Edwards: Sinners in the hands (cont next week)

The links pick up with week 5.

I recognize them from when my oldest did year 9, but for my second son I'm doing the combo years. Are these things to be dropped? Or were the links just missed? Are the 2 letters referencing Chesterfield's letters? Or something within the witch trial transcripts?

Thanks!

  Improvements to Booklists
Posted by: CrazyMama - 07-18-2023, 04:48 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

For the free reads in Year 9 there are a lot of books that could have a kindle version linked.  Some have a free kindle version, but they have no K at the end of the title.  Normally the kindle versions are linked so this is the first year I have run into this problem.  I have chosen a kindle version for each book that did not have one linked.  We have not read them yet to see if they are good versions.  I will share the links once we have read them.  I am putting this here in case there is a reason for the kindle versions not being linked.

  Recitation
Posted by: RiverBaggins - 06-29-2023, 09:28 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Is there any plans for a Recitation page, with all the years of recitation suggestions in one place? I was scrolling down the "By Subject" tab on the main website, and didn't spot it. I thought asking hopefully wouldn't hurt! You are all doing so much, anyways, so I understand if it's not in the plans!
