  Emojis next to name
Posted by: etihwnyrhtak - 11-05-2020, 09:46 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (4)

When I posted a question today in another area, I noticed I have two emojis next to my name of a face with a tongue sticking out. Is that something that the forum adds automatically? Or did I accidentally do it somehow? I don't see them when I go to my profile....

  Can't access a thread
Posted by: Mamatango6 - 11-01-2020, 11:37 PM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (18)

I was wanting to continue reading the thread on Answering the Cry, that was moved to Hot Topics, but when I click on the link that was posted, I get a message saying that I don't have permission. I am currently logged in, and everything else looks normal as far as I can tell. The forum really confuses me, at least on the tapatalk app, so maybe I've missed something. Can someone help me figure this out?

Server/Host Update DONE (no longer Imminent)
Posted by: LeslieNoelani - 10-02-2020, 06:17 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Our server is planning a routine update, which is why we rushed our forum update -- so it would be done before the server update. I don't when that will be, but they said to expect some down time. I expect it to be within a few days. If they let me know before they do it, I'll update this thread and thread title.

Please list anything you notice that needs to be fixed here.

Don't worry about the colours, though. I'm working on them.

FORUM MAINTENANCE Will Result in Downtime; Probably Today
Posted by: LeslieNoelani - 09-30-2020, 01:21 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (2)

There's some routine forum maintenance that will almost certainly be happening today; it means the forum will be offline, though I'm not sure how long -- an hour? A couple hours?

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but with Advisory/Auxiliary living all over the world, it's not always possible to plan a time in the wee hours of the morning when most people are sleeping.

  Change name of thread?
Posted by: amy.fischer - 09-03-2020, 07:48 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Hi there,

I noticed a mum in Ireland asking on FB about a place to ask questions on the forum. I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to rename the United Kingdom thread in the International section to United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland? I imagine there is quite a bit of overlap and knowledge that could be shared between the two.

Free download of Trial and Triumph
Posted by: vlreed - 09-03-2020, 02:12 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (5)

Here is a link to what appears to be a free trial and triumph download - http://clearwalksoft.com/childrens-books...iumph.html

I didn’t research if they have caveats regarding its use, perhaps someone can look into that before posting it on the website.

Also it says Elizabeth of Hungary had 4 children. My side reading about her only shows 3. So potential error there.

  "Help" Menu
Posted by: lklivingston - 08-24-2020, 05:13 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Did you know about "Help" up at the top of the forum screen?  (This only applies to browsers.  If you're using Tapatalk, you won't see this.)

Look up at the very top, on the right.  Next to "Search" and "Member List", you'll find "Help" (and "Rules").  Click on "Help," and you'll find a list of things you might want to do on the forum but not know how to do.

Post here to suggest other things you'd like information about.  Also post here if you find errors or omissions.

  Y9 vs Y9Lite
Posted by: SarahMay - 08-17-2020, 08:24 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (1)

When I printed out both schedules for this year, I was very confused. Y9Lite seems to have far more books/items to do per week than the regular Y9. perhaps they got swapped? I'm editing my own version for a mix of both plus other books we are adding in, but I just wanted to raise a flag for that.

Extra Plutarch year will be added
Posted by: AnneWhite - 08-14-2020, 01:55 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (7)

Because we like round numbers, we've decided to add a tenth year to the Plutarch cycle. It isn't  scheduled on the website yet, and the studies aren't ready: this is just a heads-up. The three new studies (Phocion, Camillus, and Dion) will appear for the year 2024-2025, and the rest will move on by one year.

If Dion seems familiar, yes, he used to be in the cycle, and we're bringing him back with updates. The others are new ones for AO.

Also, watch for all the older existing studies (Pericles etc.) to appear in overhauled format by the end of the year. I'm trying to close the gap there.

  Answering the Cry for Freedom
Posted by: lklivingston - 08-12-2020, 08:44 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (23)

The Advisory have added a book, which is scheduled across Years 4, 5, and 6 (or Groups Form 2). If you've already started your school year and can't afford another book to your budget, it's fine to pick it up later and catch up. If your library ends up with a copy (when libraries are open again!) it could also be used for free reading. It's a collection of stand-alone biographies, so its scheduling can be very flexible.

Answering the Cry for Freedom: Stories of African Americans and the American Revolution
By Gretchen Woelfle

It's been added to the booklists and schedules.

  Amazon affiliate link for amazon.ca?
Posted by: Laura in Ontario - 07-25-2020, 06:31 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (3)

Is there an affiliate link somewhere for Canadian AO'ers, going to Amazon.ca? I thought there was one before, and now I can't find it. But maybe I'm imagining things, it wouldn't be the first time.

Updated Madam How in text-only version (Years 4 and 5)
Posted by: AnneWhite - 07-24-2020, 09:40 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

A few months ago I published the AO-study version of Madam How and Lady Why, and it is available free on the website. This week Leslie created text-only versions for each of the two volumes, for those of you working with groups or for those who prefer not to give students the whole guide. You can access the text-only pages by clicking on the footnotes for the books on the Year 4 and 5 pages.

  trouble editing ODT schedule charts
Posted by: CottageSchool - 07-14-2020, 12:17 AM - Forum: Tech Support (Parent and Student Access) - Replies (2)

Hi,

I usually am able to download the ODT charts and easily edit them and print them out.  Now, I am being asked to sign-up for Microsoft Word and enter a credit card number in order to edit.  I can get my husband's help.  I'm not sure what the difference is.  Maybe it is something on our end since we got a new computer a few months ago.

Thank you!

Shelley
