You Can Give Back to the AO/CM Community By Typing |

AO is offered as a gift; we don't charge any money to use it, or require anything from our users, but sometimes people want to know -- "Is there something I can do to give back to the AO community?"
You can type vintage Parents' Review articles!
These are magazine articles that Charlotte Mason edited and sent out to parents who were using her methods back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many articles have been uploaded as page images at archive.org, thanks to Redeemer College, who has given us permission to post these articles in printable, searchable text for the benefit of the CM community at large.
Basically, you claim an article that Cathleen has posted at the top of this page. Unfortunately, you do need to be a member of the forum to access the page.
Pick whatever article sounds interesting to you. Cathleen has linked to page images of the article. Respond in that article's thread to let Cathleen know you're "claiming" that article so nobody is re-typing what's already typed.
Type your article into a plain text file (like Notepad). When you're done, paste the typed text right into the thread as a response, and I'll format it into html and post it to the AO website. I do go back and proofread all the articles . . . eventually.
If you'd like more specific guidelines, there are Formatting Instructions, but if you'd rather not get too detailed, typing is enough. I'm too slow a typist to make any progress by typing myself, but I can work with typed text pretty quickly and add any formatting or make adjustments.
We are currently working on Volume 15 (1904) and we hope to fill in all the volumes up to Volume 17.
You can view or read all of the Parents' Review articles that have been typed over the years by AO volunteers at our Table of Contents listing on the AO website.

Orphan Accounts - Do you have one? |

I am slowly cleaning up old inactive accounts. It's a manual process, so I'll never finish, but it helps keep usernames available. I know there are other orphan accounts out there that people created and then replaced with another account because of an email change or some other problem. If you have an old account that you aren't using, I can merge it with your current account so all your posts are connected to you, or if you haven't made any posts on it I can delete it if you'd prefer. (Merging would keep your original start date, in case you want to look cool.)
You can post here or you can PM me here on the forum or you can email aoforum@amblesideonline.org to let me know about your orphan account.

Missing links under Years 9-10-11 1st Year Booklist |

Under the Historical Documents, weeks 1-4 are listed on the chart we download, but not under the Historical Documents with links.
The DOC chart has the following listed:
Week 1: "2 letters; Sarah Bibber"
Week 2: "Mary Osgood; Letter to John Foster; People; Tituba; Mathers"
Week 3: "Wesley sermon: Free Grace
Week 4: "Edwards: Sinners in the hands (cont next week)
The links pick up with week 5.
I recognize them from when my oldest did year 9, but for my second son I'm doing the combo years. Are these things to be dropped? Or were the links just missed? Are the 2 letters referencing Chesterfield's letters? Or something within the witch trial transcripts?
Thanks!

Our webhost says they're doing some "essential maintenance" and our website (which includes the forum) will be offline then.
4-10pm (EST) Friday July 21, 2023
"The work is being carried out to upgrade the power infrastructure at the data centre. We’ll be moving some of our hardware to a different location in the data hall. This means that hardware will have to be shut down temporarily to allow us to move the servers."

Recitation |

Is there any plans for a Recitation page, with all the years of recitation suggestions in one place? I was scrolling down the "By Subject" tab on the main website, and didn't spot it. I thought asking hopefully wouldn't hurt! You are all doing so much, anyways, so I understand if it's not in the plans!

I apologize if I missed this answer, but I haven't found it. Is there a way to do an ISO post? I searched the sell forum, and no one is currently selling it, but I thought I could ask if anyone had it. However, I wasn't sure if that was allowed or where to put it if it was allowed (It's ARTistic Pursuits 4-5 Book 1). Thanks!

Is there a way to do this? We were at the state hs convention these past few days, and I missed out on all the great conversations you've been having!
I know I can do "view new posts" but I've already done that once and didn't get to finish reading all of them, so of course now that I've been away from that page, those are no longer new, even though I haven't actually read them.

Exams Before 2023 Changes |

The exams that are on the AO website right now (https://amblesideonline.org/exams) are the exams for the schedules that existed before the recent changes to the booklists and schedules. Those changes affected every AO year. The schedules and booklists on the AO website are all updated, but the exams are not. This summer, the exams on the AO website will be updated to reflect the new schedules. I saved the current exams to the Resources > Links and Downloads here, a thread for each year. If you need them after they are removed from the website, they will remain available here.
If you have time to look through some of those threads, I'd appreciate some fresh eyes looking over them to be sure each thread includes all three terms and an answer key for the correct year. They shouldn't have errors beyond having two copies of the same term or something like that.

What You Can See |

I have been changing forum settings this morning so that people can see what areas exist in the forum even if they do not have access to reading the content in those areas. This way, you'll know what you might want to request access to. Also, people who visit the forum can see what types of content are there (by seeing the headings of the areas) before they decide whether or not they want to register.
It's entirely possible that some settings are not what they need to be, and some of you may see content for areas to which you haven't had access previously. If that happens, please post here and give me some specifics about what you are seeing and how you are seeing it (is it in your View Today's Posts feed or can you go directly to the subforum and see it). That will help me find the wrong settings.
