Bible

These Bible readings are scheduled in AO's weekly schedules from Years 1-12 as well as AO for Groups. The schedule was updated in order to have all of the AO community (regular years as well as Groups) on the same schedule. Years 1-6 go through Genesis, Moses, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, Samuel, the Kings, the prophets, and Israel's exile, focusing on episodic stories. Years 7-12 follow a loosely-chronological plan that goes through the entire Bible, Old and New Testament, repeating the Psalms once, and going through Proverbs three times. Exams have not been updated to reflect these readings, but that will happen soon (before the 2023-2024 school year). Feel free to substitute; some may prefer to follow along with their church's reading plan, though you'll need to make adjustments to exam questions.

If you've been using the previous schedule for Years 1-12 and wish to continue, you can find those weekly reading assignments (and their exam questions) here. Old reading assignments for AO for Groups Bible readings (and their exam questions) are here. Exam questions for Lite years and Combo Years are at the very bottom of this page, which you get to here.

Through the Bible Reading Plan

This is a 6-year reading plan for students that goes through the Old Testament in Years 6-11, and adds the New Testament alongside the OT in Years 7-11. (Year 6 continues the gospel in harmony from years 2-6). The books were arranged in chronological order (using Frank DeRemer's "one-year parallel chronological bible" as a guide to arranging Bible Books in order, and then using word counts to divide it into years) but this isn't an exact chronological reading plan, as books of the Bible weren't broken up to splice individual verses where they belong chronologically. Books were kept whole.

The Song of Solomon and Revelation, which should be done with a good study guide, are not included in this schedule; they will be done in Year 12 (when students will be encouraged to read through the entire Bible in a year). Psalms and Proverbs are scheduled so that Psalms are done twice (in years 6-8, and 9-11) and Proverbs are read through three times (in years 6/7, 8/9, and 10/11).

You may have students read alone for private devotional reading, or use this schedule as part of a family devotional time. Each week's reading can be broken up in whatever way works best for you and your students. The schedule goes along slowly enough to follow along with your favorite study guide or commentary if you wish to study as you read. There are 216 readings spread over 6 years, although you are welcome to use them any way you wish.

Exam questions are based on AO's weekly scheduled readings, so if you use the schedule differently, you will need to adjust exam questions accordingly.
